8/15/06 Our summer campout is over and ten units were in attendance and four families visited for our summer meeting. The Jenkins family (Lenda & Bob) made their first campout with the Klassy Kings. The Stapelton, Pfaltzgraff and Howell families hosted the camp out at Hill Top Campground, Goreville, IL. We ate out at the Wok & Roll, Marion, IL. and KB’s in Goreville, IL. In addition we had meals of roasted chicken and BBQ cooked by Wendell and Ruth Brown. Some campers visited Fern Cliff State Park, Bay City Grocery, which is a historical 1800’s type store/antique shop on the Ohio River, Golconda, another Ohio River historical area and Flamm orchards, a local peach and apple operation with about 1000 acres of trees. The weather was hot (95-100), stormy and then a little cool (60’s at night) after the cold front moved through. We all enjoyed our time together and wondered how the week went so fast.
The remaining Klassy Kings 2006 schedule is as follows: National Rally, Branson, MO Oct. 1-8-2006Christmas Party, 6 P.M., 12-2-2006, Western Sizzlin, Marion, IL Klassy King 2007 schedule: April 21, 22 & 23, Little Opry, Jackson, MO June 9 & 10h, Mystery Campout (location is a secret) August 18 & 19h, Fall Rally (location to be determined) Safe travels this year and hope to see you in Branson for our hilly billy convention, hosted by them Oakies! Just for your information a spy family by the name of Don & Ruetta Alexander came to Missouri and visited us in July. Don’t know what they was look’in for, but they seem to have left happy. 5-30-2006 Our spring campout is over and a record number of units were in attendance. With 20 in attendance and 4 families visiting, we basically filled up The Little Opry campground. The ladies visited Grandma’s House, a little country shop that makes just about anything (bows, angels, Christmas ornaments, flowers, baskets, etc.) out of regular old screen wire. Great home cooking was done by our Queens and a King or so as well as eating out on several occasions. Amadon State Conversation Area was visited by three truck loads of folks. This area on the Castor River has an unique rock known locally as “Pink Rocks”. The coloration exist no other place in the world and covers only about 4 acres of the river area. We finished the week with several couples attending church services at Janice & Ken Sauerbrunn’s home church, Wesley United Methodist. Sunday evening, we visited the St. John’s Lutheran Church annual kettle cooked beef supper. The 850 pounds of beef was cooked in cast iron kettles over an open wood fire. Of course corn, green beans, mashed potatoes, slaw, desert and drink rounds out your all you can eat meal. After our meal, an over the hill and through the valley tour of the country side visited four historical places. The 3rd oldest Presbyterian Church West of the Mississippi River, viewed Bald Knob Cross (30 miles away), Tower Rock (a Lewis and Clark Camp area on the Mississippi River) and Old Appelton, MO bridge and grist mill area. On May 5th, 6th and 7th many of our members visited Kampers Supply for their annual open house. Various members assisted Marvin and Shirley by staffing the pop corn, hot dog, cookie and soda refreshment table. We were able to visit with several vendors as well as Jeff from the King of the Road. A new 2006 trailer was on display with the 2007 features. Included was a large golden crown and striping that really improves the ability to identify that it is a King of The Road! The remaining Klassy Kings 2006 campout schedule is as follows: Fall campout (Aug 11, 12 & 13th) at Hill Top, Goreville, ILNational Rally, Branson, MO Oct. 1-8-2006 Safe travels this year and hope to see you in Branson for our hilly billy convention, hosted by them Oakies! |

It is once again Thanksgiving and Christmas and we wish each one a happy holiday season. We pray that you have been blessed with safe travels, health and blessings during your travels. I could include cheaper fuel, but we all know that is not going to happen! The route to the Tucson National Rally was a very rewarding experience. Rose Ann & Jerry Walls and Janice & I left home on Sept. 22 via Illinois, Missouri, Kansas, Colorado, Utah, Arizona, Mexico, New Mexico, Oklahoma, Arkansas and Branson, MO, then back to our homes. En-route we visited numerous historical and beautiful sites which were all unique in their own way. America is very diverse with its different climate, terrain, scenery and people with their various ways of life.
The national rally was an experience like no other. Thanks to our National Officers and their spouses, Full Timers, King of The Road Company and anyone else who had a hand in making the rally an enjoyable experience. We will remember Tucson as a great time, filled with unique experiences of the Tucson area.
On our way home we visited ABC RV Park (2006 Rally site), in Branson, MO. While you will not see cactus, citrus trees, arid climate or flat land, you will see and experience another portion of America. You will be at 1000-1500 ft. elevation with hills & valleys. You will have hard wood trees, green grass, lakes, maybe a moon shine still and like Tucson, some traffic issues! In addition you may see more Hillbillies similar to the ones who performed for us in Tucson. They did capture the Beverly Hillbillies original show car and place it in a museum there. Plan ahead and see the sites leading into Branson, before, during and after the rally. I am sure the Oklahoma Roamers will provide us with an enjoyable Rally next year, so start planning now.
The Klassy Kings 2006 campout schedule is as follows:
April, 21, 22 & 23, Little Opry, Jackson, MO
June 9, 10 & 11, Devil’s Backbone, Grandtower, IL
Fall campout (Sept. or Oct.) will be scheduled in April
National Rally, Branson, MO Oct. 1-8-2006
Thanks to our local club sponsor, Kamper’s Supply, for their support and participation in the local and national events. Thanks Shirley and Marvin Oetjen!

November 27, 2005 The Little Ole Opera at Jackson will hold its last performance next Saturday night, 12-2-2005. It has been going for 20 years, but due to Terry's health they have elected to lease the building to some folks who will have some sort of activities there. The campground will still be run by Terry as of now. So our spring camp out is still on as scheduled. Our King Christmas party is still on for 12-5-2005 AT 6 p.m., but the Southern Grill is now know as the "Wok & Roll" restrauant. No, it is not all Chinese, but they have expanded their Chinese menu along with steak, salad bar, etc. Same location in Marion, IL. on the East side of the shopping mall on Rt. 13. Sauerbrunn's, jkskls@showme.net May 29th 2004 The Klassy Kings held a spring camp out in April at the Little Old Opry, West of Jackson, MO. Eighteen member units attended the campout. The weather was cool, but the old barrel stove in the shelter provided the necessary heat for a comfortable outing. Story telling was once again high on the agenda along with great cooking from the Klassy Queens and Kings and of course the local restaurants! Our June camp out will be on the Mississippi River at Grand Tower, IL on June 11, 12 & 13, 2004. The date for the fall campout in DuQuoin, Il., will be Sept. 24, 25 & 26th, 2004. Members are making plans for the Rayne, LA National Rally. It appears we will have around 15 units in attendance and are looking forward to having a great time. The Klassy Kings continue to grow as a club and now have 46 on our mailing list. Safe travels and hope to see you in Frog Country! Ken & Janice Sauerbrunn March 14, 2004 February is truly going out "like a lamb" here in the middle part of the U.S.A. with temperatures in the 60's and sunny. March is predicted to come in "like a lion" with 30 to 40 MPH wind gusts bringing clouds and rain. Our friend planted his lettuce on Valentine's day and is reporting fresh lettuce poking through the ground. Easter flowers are starting to show their foliage tips and the robin's are back in full force. The Klassy Kings had 18 couples in attendance at our annual Christmas dinner. Plans are starting to be made for our campouts and the National Rally in Rayne, LA. A campout will occur on the weekend of April 17, and 18th, 2004 at the Little Opry, Jackson, MO. Full hook ups (water/electric/sewer) for about $9.00 night. Also the indoor Opry show consists of a live band/singers on Saturday night for $4.00 per person. Reservations are not required, but I MUST KNOW BY March 15th if you are planning on coming, so I can let the campground owner know how many sites to hold. If any KOTR travelers are in the area, give me a call and I will see about getting you a place to stay with us. Bring a fishing pole for the local lake if you wish (catfish, bass, blue gill, crappie). Also our June campout at Grand Tower, IL (on the banks of the Mississippi river) will be the weekend of June 12th & 13th , 2004. The fall 2004 camp out is scheduled for Sept. 25th, 26th at DuQuoin, IL. Then it will be off to Rayne, LA. for the national camp out. Safety item: After you refill your propane tanks and re-install them, take some soapy water and check around the large green knob for propane leaks. I found one leaking and have been told by other campers that they have also found leaks. The problem appears to be the seal between the fitting and the rubber hose. The first replacement hose I bought also leaked in the same area. Have a safe spring and summer camping season. |
